•Note: Was born and educated in Malacca. Like TCY, he inherited numerous houses and parcels of land in Malacca and Singapore. Followed Hoon Siang's footstep by studying in England. In later years, he migrated to Hong Kong. Became a successful merchant and miner. He was the executive partner of the firm, Hup Liong Co, located at No. 4 Beach Road. His other company, Hap Liong Co., of which J C Robertson was a partner, was given extensive rights by the Sultan of Johore to mine tin in the Ulu Jemluang Valley. During the war, TWY together with his 2 business partners, Mr Sim Cheng Mia and Tan Kim Wah, donated a warplane to the British Government. The fighter plane was known as the "Wi Cheng Kim" or Malaya No. 4. Had a penchant for fine living. Was among the earliest in Singapore to own a Rolls Royce. The Silver Ghost bore the number S4884. A copy of a photograph showing TWY and his Rolls Royce is kept in the National Heritage Board. TWY is buried in Bukit Brown.
